RIVERS FOUNDATION AWARDS GSS SCHOLARSHIPS

Gingerland -Nevis- Ms. Lauren Rivers, CEO of the Rivers’ foundation presented scholarships at the Gingerland Secondary School on Tuesday 5 th May, 2026. Ms. Rivers who is a past student and Teacher at the renowned institution, indicated that the foundation was developed in her ongoing efforts to give back to her beloved community.

The River’s foundation was founded in 2019, with the stated goal of expanding the world for local students, in foreign languages. “Language skills open doors to careers”, she stated. The two recipients of the scholarships for 2026 are Anisa Henry and Adrian Douglas. They were presented with bag packs containing academic and language resources, along with $1,500.00 EC in financial support and $700.00 EC for foreign language coaching experience with a coaching mentor.

They will meet once per month for an entire year, to receive coaching in the languages and assistance with homework etc. Special thanks were extended to Debra Lellouch, Michelle Givens of the USA and Dr. Kester Williams -Parry, who have all assisted with the workings of the foundation. For the first time, the award for excellence in global language instruction, was presented to a teacher at the school. The Orvis trophy was presented to head of the modern languages department, Mrs. Averil Tross, for leadership vision and commitment in language education.
