CHARLESTOWN PRIMARY MAINTAINS UNBEATEN RUN
The Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools cricket tournament continued on Thursday 30 th June withm two matches.
The most anticipated match-up, was the scheduled game between two hitherto unbeaten teams, the Charlestown Primary and Joycelyn Liburd Primary. CPS won the toss and elected to bat first, getting to a challenging 99 in their allotted 15 overs.
For the first time in the tournament, star player Zakeem Bailey, failed to score a half century, falling for 40, to an excellent running catch. He was well supported by an entertaining knock by Delijah Jones, who scored 37. Add to that 20 extras,
to give an overall total of 99 for 2. JLPS looked threatening in their response, at 20 without loss, in just two overs, but that is when Zakeem Bailey took the ball and running in on a long run from the Bath Hotel end, turned the game on its head in two impactful overs. His first two balls produced wickets, then in his following over, his third and fourth balls produced
wickets: Two bowled and two LBW, beaten by sheer pace! Thereafter, the JLPS team struggled but still managed to give CPS some jitters, as they neared the target, with the CPS team gifting all of 40 extras to the cause. They eventually succumbed at 87 all out-12 runs short of the target. Jevon Matthew top scored with 13. Zakeem Bailey 4 for 19 and Ishan Bhim 3 for 9, the main destroyers. CPS won by 12 runs.
