KITTS: Football fans were treated to a spectacular, high-scoring spectacle as the 2026 Elvis Star Browne Women’s League officially kicked off over the weekend, delivering a staggering total of 19 goals across three thrilling matches. The action was headlined by dominant performances from the league's top contenders, featuring commanding clean sheets, impressive debuts, and tactical masterclasses.
CHAMPIONS GROUND OUT STATEMENT WIN
Defending champions Mapau Cayon Rockettes launched their title defense in flawless fashion on Saturday, June 20, cruising to a comprehensive 7-0 victory over newcomers S L Horfords St. Paul’s United Sparks at the National Bank Group Technical Center. Reflecting on the dominant performance, Cayon Rockettes Head Coach Tyrone O’Loughlin noted that while the match started slowly, it provides a powerful foundation for the season ahead. “They didn't go to the game plan when we started... in the second half, we came back and played a much better game. We probably could have gotten more goals tonight,” Coach O’Loughlin said. Despite suffering a heavy defeat in their inaugural match, St. Paul’s United Sparks Head Coach Jamal Jeffers remained optimistic about his squad's resilience and long-term potential. “We came up against the league champions and regardless of the outcome...I could see the fight. I could see the girls enjoying themselves. Most of them are new to the game so it's good to see that we have a few players from in and around the area who could come on play some football,” Coach Jeffers said.
BATH UNITED IGNITES CAMPAIGN WITH CONVINCING VICTORY
Earlier that day, Hector and Associates Hotspring Bath United opened their 2026 account with an impressive 4-1 triumph over Security Forces United Women. Bath United Head Coach Alex Claxton attributed the clinical performance directly to the squad's rigorous pre-season training. “Well, I think that the girls executed what they've been doing in training and you could see that they are now not only just looking...but they're trying to keep possession and at the same time
(passing the ball) and that's a good sign,” Claxton said.
NEWTOWN UNITED DOMINATES IN DRAMA-FILLED CLASH
The opening weekend concluded with a highly anticipated showdown between former champions Honda Newtown United Women and the 2026 President’s Cup winners, MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets. Honda Newtown secured a commanding 7-0 victory in a one-sided affair that came to a premature end in the 71st minute. Following the loss of their goalkeeper, the Lady Jets elected not to continue the match. Newtown’s Coach Kevin Welsh praised his team's execution but
emphasized that the focus remains on continuous improvement. “Well, there's something to build on for now. It's just a matter of coming to the practice and executing well once we get here....we have a few things to work on so we will deal with that matter at the practice ground and then we will come again and show what we can do going forward,” Welsh said.
