SKN ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION TO HOST AWARENESS EVENT
Basseterre, SKN: The Alzheimer’s Association of St. Kitts and Nevis will host an Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Campaign on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Independence Square, Basseterre, as part of its ongoing efforts to increase public awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The campaign is designed to educate the public about Alzheimer’s disease, reduce the stigma surrounding dementia, and encourage individuals and families to access the education, support, and resources available through the Association.
Throughout the event, members of the public will have the opportunity to learn about the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease, understand the risk factors associated with the condition, and recognize the importance of early detection and timely intervention. Educational materials and information on support services for individuals living with dementia, their caregivers, and families will also be available. Guided by the theme “Know the signs. Start the conversation. Support those affected by
dementia” the Association hopes to increase public knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease by reaching individuals through community education and outreach, while fostering a greater understanding of how the disease affects not only those diagnosed but also their loved ones and caregivers.
In addition to raising awareness, the campaign aims to encourage greater community engagement by increasing participation in the Association’s support groups, educational workshops, awareness initiatives, and other programs designed to improve the quality of life for persons affected by dementia.
"Awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against Alzheimer's disease," the Association noted. "By educating our communities, encouraging early recognition of the warning signs, and connecting families with the support they need, we can help improve outcomes for those living with dementia while reducing the stigma that too often surrounds the disease." The Alzheimer’s Association of St. Kitts and Nevis is inviting residents from across the Federation to attend the free awareness event and join the effort to build a more informed, compassionate, and dementia-aware community.
