SUNKEN AIRCRAFT TO BOOST MARINE LIFE AND DIVE ST. KITTS

Creating an artificial reef is the aim of sinking an old abandoned aircraft by the Tourism Authority to boost the marine ecosystem off Potato Bay and to add value to diving expeditions for dive tourism, which is an increasingly award winning activity for dive visitors.

On Friday, April 24, the small twin-engined aircraft was lifted off Port Zante and lowered into the water to be toured to the well-known Talata wreck off Potato Bay on the southern coast of St. Kitts. A few weeks before, the aircraft was removed from the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport by Regiwell Francis of St. Kitts Marine Works. A Kennett Dive Centre crew towed the aircraft out to sea, with the sinking observed by Tourism and other officials.
